    Good advice. I love the leading question of “what effect did you ask for that was difficult to achieve?” Their answer could reveal a lot.

    My default preferred position on film sets is 8 feet behind and just to the side (whichever side the Gaffer is on) of the DIT cart. It’s close enough to communicate with a word or even a glance, but not so close I’m involved with every little interaction.

    Once, on a high profile gig where I was also new and very nervous, the crew stuck me right between the DIT and the Director’s cart. That was horrible. Never get stuck there.
