As I continue on this TV production (now called Serials, since TV is…in flux of existence), I enjoy the moments where I have time to think of a better way to do something. One of those is the transition from one set to another.
I dislike transitions of nearly all sorts (it’s an Autism thing, it seems) and find them stressful. So common practice is to have energized the next set before you get there (put it into a look), then move your console over. In our case, nearly every set is still being worked on, so I energize many of the sets at the beginning of the day using Park. When the gaffer has called for a custom look on a set, I often get stressed as I’m trying to get all the values from Park into Live. Until now.
The answer is simple and obvious the moment I asked myself the right question.
(Channels) Recall from Park Enter
This calls all values for the selected channels into Live. Then go to Park, hit Select Last at Enter. Done.
Not sure why this never occurred to me before. But I love it now! If you have other little workflow things that help you through transitions of one kind or another- please leave a comment!
