I love my DMXCat E, but currently there is a compatibility issue preventing Artnet RDM from working with Netron. I’m not a software developer, so I‘m one step away from “repeating what the adults are saying” but it sounds like this could be linked to the same issue that prevents MA consoles from using Artnet RDM with Netron nodes. If I understand correctly, Wayne Howell wrote Artnet 4 in such a way that there are two ways of interpreting RDM implementation. Both are technically correct, but they are incompatible with each other.
Matt with Obsidian Lighting Systems conveyed that they are aware of the issue and are working to resolve this with a firmware update. I made City Theatrical aware of the issue when I called in for tech support. Hopefully we’ll have an answer soon.
For this who are unaware, Artnet has RDM built in. If you have RDM on both for the whole node and the port, plus the port is set to Artnet, DMXCat should be able to use RDM to reconfigure any light across your network.
All this to say- if you are pondering buying a DMXCat E but your nodes include Netron- you might want to wait a bit longer. I’ll report back when I test and confirm the problem is solved.
Who has successfully used their DMXCat e to configure a light through their node? What nodes are you using? Hit me in the comments.
